The gap in Odoo POS for North America

Odoo integrates natively with a short list of terminal providers, and most of it does not fit a Canadian or US business:

  • Adyen generally serves merchants above roughly $10 million a year or a thousand transactions a month
  • Worldline is limited to Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg
  • SIX and Ingenico require an IoT Box on the local network
  • Several supported providers do not operate in Canada or the US at all
  • None of them sell you the terminal, the software and the support as one contract

Lightspeed

Montreal built, genuinely strong on retail inventory and analytics, and the closest competitor on features. The catch is Lightspeed Payments: processing is locked to the platform, third party processors cost more, and pricing moves with plan and add-on complexity. kleverPOS gives you comparable inventory depth with a real general ledger underneath and no payment lock.

Clover

Sold mostly through banks and resellers, which is why two Clover merchants rarely pay the same rate. Clover hardware is locked to the processor you bought it from, so changing processor usually means changing hardware, and capability arrives through an app market where the costs stack. PAX terminals from us are not tied to a reseller.

Shopify POS

A good answer if your business is fundamentally an online store with a counter attached. It gets weaker as the physical side grows: purchasing, multi-warehouse, production and full accounting are not the point of the product. kleverPOS runs the web store as one module among many rather than the centre of gravity.

Bank terminals and legacy processors

Moneris, Global Payments, Chase and the bank programs usually win on nothing except the existing banking relationship. Expect statement fees, PCI fees, batch fees, non-qualified surcharges and a terminal that knows nothing about your inventory. If the terminal does not post to your books, it is a card reader, not a point of sale.

Questions

Before you ask

Do I have to use kleverPay to use kleverPOS?

No. kleverPay is the default because it gives you one contract, one support line and the flat rate. If you already have a processor you like, tell us and we will look at integrating it. Your POS does not stop working if you change processors later.

What does kleverPOS cost?

Software is a monthly fee per active register with every module included, and card processing is a competitive card present rate. Because hardware count, locations and migration scope vary, we quote after a short walkthrough rather than publish a number that would be wrong for most businesses. Ask us and you will have it the same day.

What happens if the internet goes down?

The register keeps taking orders offline and syncs everything once the connection returns. Card authorization needs a live connection, which is why the A920 Pro carries 4G LTE as a fallback.

Do I need to be on Odoo already?

No. Most kleverPOS customers are coming off Square, Toast, Lightspeed, Clover or a mix of spreadsheets and QuickBooks. We handle the migration of products, customers and stock.

Cloud or our own server?

Either. We host it for you, or we deploy on your infrastructure. Odoo is open source, so the database is yours in both cases and it can be exported in full at any time.

Can I keep the POS hardware I already have?

Often yes for peripherals like printers, scanners, scales and cash drawers. Payment terminals from a competing platform are usually locked to that platform, so those get replaced.

Does this work for both Canadian and US locations?

Yes. Canadian locations get Interac, EFT and CAD settlement. US locations get ACH and USD settlement. Multi-country groups run as separate companies with consolidated reporting in one database.

How many registers can I run?

As many as you need, across as many locations as you need. Pricing is per active register and the back office does not change price when you add one.
